I love Pinterest. I could easily spend a whole day of browsing through makeup looking through makeup looks, recipes, outfits, DIY’s, interior photos, and of course travel inspiration. Previously my list of bookmarks would be packed with all the things that I wanted to do on different destinations, and when I finally needed something, I wouldn’t be able to find it. That’s when Pinterest comes in handy. It’s perfect for planning your next trip, as well as for finding inspiration for new destinations to visit. Whether you are a major planner or not, you might want to read on and get some ideas on how to use Pinterest for inspiration for your next trip.
New to Pinterest? This is what you need to know.
Basically, Pinterest is an online pinning board. You can create different boards on a specific and pin photos to those boards either from websites, Pinterest or by uploading your own photos. You can follow other people or topics, and if you find something that you wanna keep for later, all you need to do is to repin it to your own board. Easy!
How to use Pinterest for travel planning
Set up your boards
The first step is to set up your boards. This is where you organize your pins. Mine are divided into the different continents, but you can also divide them into countries, cities, or be even more specific and divide it into things to do, see, eat, stay in a certain city. That is completely up to you. If you see a pin that you wanna keep for later, simply click the little pin button, and pin it onto the appropriate board.
Follow inspiring boards and pinners
Once you’ve set up your boards, it’s time to pin away. Start by finding some boards or pinners for inspiration, like travel bloggers or tourism boards. If you find something or someone you like, just click follow, and you’ll find their newest pins on your startpage.
Click the travel category
Right next to the search bar you’ll find some small lines. If you click on this, you’ll find a list of different categories to browse through. Whenever I’m just looking for some general travel inspiration, this is where I’ll go. It was after browsing through this category that I realized that I wanted to visit Guilin last summer, which hands down has been one of the most amazing places I’ve visited.
Use the search bar
When you want some more specific inspiration, simply type it into the search bar. You can simply search by the city or country, like Paris or France, but you can also search on something more specific, like places to stay, eat, or do. As you start typing in your chosen destination, sugested terms will pop up below the search bar. I find that clicking on these suggestions is a really great way to narrow down my search and find some new inspiration.
Add location pins
A feature on Pinterest which is perfect for travel planning is the location pins. Basically this allows you to map out the locations of your pins and boards. This is a more visual way of finding things to see and do on your next trip, but is also perfect for sharing some hidden gems with your followers after a trip.
